Hungary’s President Katalin Novák addressed the Paris Peace Forum and met with French President Emmanuel Macron during the weekend.
“We must use all possible means to remove every impediment on the path to peace,” Hungarian President Katalin Novák told the 5th Paris Peace Forum on Friday.
In her contribution, the head of state warned that the longer the war drags on, the harder it will be to achieve peace, while greater destruction and suffering lead to an escalation of the war. She pointed out that there is no genuine will for a ceasefire and peace talks. There is no sufficient and firm intent to mediate between the parties while disinformation hinders agreement and causes serious damage, the president explained.
Katalin Novák warned that Europe is facing a threat of a nuclear conflict, while she also called the threat to cut off energy and food supplies unfair.
On the sidelines of the forum, Hungary’s President held bilateral discussions with her counterparts from Serbia, North Macedonia, and Georgia, the foreign minister of Switzerland, the chairman of the French Senate and attended the Polish Independce Day celebration where she met Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau.
Following the Peace Forum in Paris, Katalin Novák was welcomed by the event’s host, President Emmanuel Macron, and his wife in the Élysée Palace.
I trust that we will work together to bring down the obstacles on the path to peace,
she wrote in a Facebook post.
On Sunday, the President visited the Memorial for the victims of the crash of the Rio to Paris Air France flight in 2009 in the Père-Lachaise Cemetery. She paid her respects to the five Hungarian victims of the crash.
